Why I Use (and Recommend) NuFish Xact Line

When I’m out on the bank, whether it’s in a competition or just a relaxing afternoon session on my own or with Leon, I want gear that I can trust. For me, part of that trust starts with the line.

I’ve been asked a lot lately why I’ve put so much faith in the NuFish Xact range at Soar Tackle. The truth is, in this game I've tried loads of different lines over the years—some good, some not so good. Some of the good ones seemed to have changed over time, and not for the better either, which is a shame. When Mick and his team at NuFish launched Xact, I had to try some. Well, as you can see, it's found its way onto the shop shelves.

While it’s made to the exacting standards needed for high-level competition fishing, it’s actually a brilliant choice for any angler who wants a reliable, honest product for making rigs and hooklengths.

It’s Not Just for the Pros

Don’t let the "competition" label put you off. You don’t need to be a sponsored angler to get the benefit of a quality line. The difference that a good line makes to the way your rigs work, both in presentation and reliability, will make a big difference to your fishing.

The "Xact" name comes from the diameter. NuFish have staked their reputation on it. To quote them: "If the spool says 0.12mm, it is 0.12mm." I value that honesty. If you know exactly what you’re fishing with, you’ll have much more confidence in your setup.

The Heat Treatment Advantage

Apart from accurate diameters, one of the features of this line is the Heat Treatment. This process creates a toughened line surface that offers an extra layer of protection against shot damage.

Now, we all know that the best way to protect your line from shot damage is to apply your shot correctly in the first place (and definitely not with your teeth!). However, we also know that through a session, making adjustments to shotting patterns is a must, and that does take its toll on your line. Because of that heat-treated surface, Xact line does seem to be more resilient to shot being moved about on it.

I've found it also ties beautifully, especially in the low diameters when making hooklengths. The knot strength is spot on, too. I tested the 0.117mm to its absolute limit when I hit into a huge Perch while competing on the winter league. Yes, the hooklength was knackered afterwards, but it stood up to being dragged through weed and snags in a fast-flowing river battle!. Giving me over 5kg and second in section that day narrowly beaten by an England international (just Oz's in it). Needless to say, that boosted my confidence in this line even more.

I’ve put together this quick guide to help you with which diameter is best suited for your session. To keep it dead simple, I’d recommend the following:

My Verdict

I use this line because it’s reliable and it’s honest. Whether I’m tying up rigs for a competition or just heading out for a few hours of peace and quiet, I want to know what I have set up isn't the weak link. NuFish Xact gives you that professional-grade quality in a way that is practical for every single angler.
