Gardner Zig Rig Session Pack

When the sun is out and the air pressure is high, carp spend the vast majority of their time cruising mid-water or near the surface. In these conditions, bottom baits are often ignored. The Gardner Zig Rig Session Pack provides everything you need to target these fish effectively, all in one cost-effective bundle.

This kit takes the guesswork out of Zig fishing, providing a perfectly matched combination of hooklink, hooks, and buoyant foam to ensure your presentation is balanced and enticing.

What’s in the Pack?

  • 20m Zig Link Spool: A low-visibility mono in 10lb, breaking strain. It is designed to be ultra-supple while maintaining high knot strength.

  • Mixed Zig Rig Foam: A full stick of each of our 8 essential colours (including Yellow, Black, Pink, and White). This allows you to experiment with different "visuals" to see what the fish are reacting to on the day.

  • Size 11 & 12 Covert Mugga Hooks: A pack of 10 legendary Mugga hooks. The aggressive in-turned eye and razor-sharp point make these arguably the best Zig hooks on the market for converting subtle takes into solid hook holds.

Why use a Zig Rig?

Zig fishing isn't just for the summer; it's a year-round method for intercepted fish that aren't feeding on the deck. Because the foam is highly buoyant, you can present your bait at any depth—from just inches off the bottom to right under the surface.

To create an effective zig rig it couldn’t be simpler:

  • Tie a small loop on the end of the Zig Link hooklink (this will be the ‘hair’ for your bait attachment). Zig Rigs work better when the hook and bait are touching so make sure the hair is as short as possible.
  • Thread a small 1cm section of Zig Rig Foam onto the hair and use a small stop to keep it in place.
  • Cut the hooklink to the desired length and tie on the Size 12 Mugga hook using a simple Knotless knot.
  • Tie onto the swivel using a Palomar knot.

Soar Tackle Tips:

  • Short Hairs: For the best hook-up rates, keep your hair as short as possible. The hook should sit tight against the foam so that when a carp sucks in the bait, the hook follows immediately.

  • Varie your Depths: If you’re fishing three rods, Try different depths (e.g., 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 of the way up the water column). This gives you more chance of intercepting any crusing fishing.

  • Safety First: We highly recommend using these with a Covert Safety Clip. This allows you to use the lightest lead possible for the distance you're fishing, reducing the "splash" and disturbance when the rig lands.

Available Options:

  • Breaking Strain: 10lb

  • Hook Type: Available in both Barbed and Barbless versions.
