Our unprepared Tares are an all-time classic hook bait during the summer months. They are often fished alongside hemp on the hook for Roach, Dace, and Chub, Just like Hemp Tares seem to sort out the quality fish.

My Tip for Preparing Tares

You will need to prepare your Tares before using them, which is very easy to do. By far the easiest way is to pre-soak them overnight.

1. After an overnight soak, bring them to the boil in a pan.

2. Cook for around 30 minutes, or until they are just soft enough to split with your fingernail.

3. To turn your Tares a nice dark black, add a teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda while they are cooling.

Note: Be very careful when adding bicarb, as the water can froth up quite quickly and overflow the pan if it's boiling. Always best to switch off the heat before adding. Also, make sure you use an old pan and not he wifes best! as chances are the bicarb and tares will turn the inside of the pan black!

While the Tares are cooling down in the water, add half a tablespoon of sugar per pint of Tares to sweeten them up.
