My Tip for Preparing Hook Hemp

You will need to prepare your hemp before using it, which is very easy to do. By far the easiest way is to just boil it in a pan for around 30 minutes or until the white kernel just starts to split from the seed.

But for the absolute best results on the bank, here is my tip:

1. Soak a handful of hook hemp in a bait tub overnight.

2. The next day, empty the soaked seed and the water straight into a pan.

3. Boil it until the white kernel is ‘just starting’ to show from the seed, personally I think it hooks better when it’s only just starting to split (note you may need to add a bit more water while boiling).

4. Allow the seed to cool naturally in the water you used to boil it. While it is cooling down, add one tablespoon of sugar per pint of bait.

5. Once cooled, drain off the water into a container. Save this water to use later for mixing your groundbaits on the bank.
